Wood Certification
All Precedent frames are made from wood that has been grown in the US and certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). SFI in an independent, third-party organization who certifies that the wood has been grown and harvested in a responsible manner. SFI certification requires that growers take necessary steps to keep our streams clean, prevent soil erosion, encourage reforestation, and protect wildlife. SFI certification assures consumers that the wood products they are buying do not contribute to the destruction of the worlds forestlands.

Formaldehyde Content
Precedent frames emit very low levels of formaldehyde. The frames are constructed of engineered hardwood, which incorporates adhesives that contain phenol formaldehyde. Phenol formaldehyde is released at far lower levels than urea formaldehyde, which is used in the manufacture of some upholstered furniture. Our frame material is so low in formaldehyde emissions that it is exempt from all testing and certification requirements. Formaldehyde levels for Precedent frames is less than 0.1 parts per million, well below the maximum set by CARB (California Air Resources Board).

Cushions

All Precedent cushions are made from foam that utilizes technology from Cargill's BiOH polyols. Polyol, a petroleum derivative, is the primary component used in the manufacture of foam. Cargill's BiOH substitutes soybean oil for 20% of the petroleum that is ordinarily required to produce polyol, thus decreasing our dependence on foreign oil while leaving a smaller environmental footprint. For every pound of Cargill's BiOH that is consumed, one half pound of crude oil is saved.

Recycled Polyester Padding

All padding used in the seat deck, outside arms and outside backs is made from 100% recycled polyester. Polyester fiber used on the inside arms and inside backs is made from 80% recycled material.

Recycled Steel

All Precedent metal parts, including springs, spring clips, staples, etc. are produced from a minimum of 95% recycled steel. They are painted with paints that do not include lead.

Water-based, Formaldehyde-free Glues

The glue used in securing Precedent frame parts is water-based and uses no formaldehyde.

Recyclable Packaging Materials

100% of Precedent packaging and shipping materials is recyclable.
